Workshops at Long Lane Farm

Spring workshops for 2024 open March 23rd! See details below!

Workshops are my favorite!

I love to keep things fresh in more ways than one so I try to offer something different as often as possible without too many repeats. Workshops are held on our beautiful 1850’s bank barn (unless otherwise noted)!

2024 Schedule…

april and May workshops are open now!

  • April:

    • Wednesday April 24th at 5:00 PM: Watercolor Flowers with Mallory

I’ve been wanting to collab with other locals on some fun workshops and this is the year! This workshop will bring the beautiful artist Mallory Scoppa Gardner to the farm! In our old barn space, Mallory will guide you through using watercolors to paint a flower still-life: a small arrangement of fresh flowers grown on our farm. At the end of the workshop you will take home your own painting AND your arrangement of spring florals all to enjoy at home!

This is an instructional class but not too serious so don’t worry if you are not an artist or feel you have “no talent.” Art is healing and restorative and those elements are not based on how “good” you think you are. This is for fun, to relax, to get a small piece of time for you (or you and some friends!). To enjoy the beauty of spring on the farm and some good company. All materials provided.

    • Saturday April 27th at 2 PM: Tulip Mania Arrangement

Come to the farm for tulip mania! We grow approximately 10,000 tulips each year (always increasing!) and we want to share them with you. Not regular single red and yellow tulips, oh no, we only grow the fanciest doubles and parrots in all shades of pink, purple, white, red, burgundy, etc! Oh and not just tulips either, thousands of heirloom daffodils with layers of petals, and other early spring flowers and greens too!

We will have an array of fresh cut flowers for you to choose from. Or feel free to cut some of your own as we tour our bulb fields and discuss how we plant and grow them. Information you can apply to your own garden! Then Emily will guide you through arranging your chosen blooms in a beautiful vase to create a large spring arrangement for you to take home and enjoy! All materials provided.

  • May:

    • Saturday & Sunday May 4 & 5 from 9 am - 3 pm each day: Seedling Sale! (no ticket needed)

Plant starts: Cut flowers, heirloom veggies, herbs, some native perennials, and some novelty plants (no bedding plants). Plus some of our favorite tools for sale, t-shirts, aprons, etc! (No ticket needed)

    • Saturday May 11th at 2 PM: Mother’s Day Workshop

Mothers come in many forms. Mothers to children, mothers to grown children, mothers to dogs, mothers to cats, mothers to plants, (mothers to donkeys… lol). Whichever way you have come to be a mother, we want to celebrate you here at Long Lane Farm!

If you don’t know the backstory of how I got into flower farming, the very short version is that I have struggled for nearly a decade to become a mother to human children and farming started as a distraction. Therefore, please know that if you are in that boat, if you have made the choice not to have children, or you feel “left out” on Mother’s Day…we are for you too.

We will have a bouquet bar for you to design your own hand-tied bouquet from our own fresh flowers, some yummy refreshments and drinks, a take-home basket including local macarons, cocktail mixers and a recipe card, dahlia tubers, tea from Tria Prima, a special face cream, and more…

We expect you to arrive at the farm, take a long deep breath, wear a flower in your hair, relax, and enjoy yourself. Enjoy spring and the rebirth of all of our plants and flowers after a long season of winter with the Mother of them all…Nature!

      All materials provided.

    • Friday May 31st at 5 PM: Peony Workshop

I know you all LOVE peonies! Take a journey of the senses! Sight, smell, sound, touch. Join us on the farm for a workshop dedicated to these voluptuous, sweet smelling stunning flowers! We will tour our peony fields and discuss how we plant, grow, and maintain this long lived crop. You can cut your favorites as we go! We’ll also have an array of flowers for you to choose from in our old bank barn, with peonies as the stars of course. You can select a beautiful vase and Emily will guide you through designing your own arrangement to take home and enjoy.

      All materials provided.
